Correction: The National Weather Service has NOT issued a hurricane warning for Hawaiian waters. A previous report was in error.
Here’s the updated forecast from KHON 2’s Justin Cruz:
Hurricane Celia remains a category 2 storm as of late Monday evening. According to the National Weather Service, Celia is about 1,900 miles east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii, moving west-northwest at 10 mph. Celia is expected to weaken as it crosses into the Central Pacific and encounters cooler waters. High surf and rain could reach Hawaii Island by Sunday or Monday.
Right behind Hurricane Celia is Tropical Depression 5-e, which could reach Tropical Storm strength by today (Tuesday) and hurricane strength by Wednesday, 13 July 2016.
It’s too early to tell what effects Tropical Depression 5-e will have on Hawaii Island. It’s best to be prepared in any case.
The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency will update residents with announcements over radio, television, the internet, and the social media.
