At 3:15 p.m., Thursday, 14 July 2016, personnel at the Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Honolulu received a call that the pilot of a dual-engine aircraft with two people on board radioed in to report an in-flight emergency.  The plane reportedly was flying from Maui to Kona when radar lost contact with the aircraft about 25 miles northwest of Kona.  The USS Chung Hoon has joined Coast Guard aircraft and vessels in searching for the missing plane.
