Here’s the latest update on the journey of the ocean voyaging canoe Hokule’a.  The canoe left St. Helena Island in the South Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday, heading for Ascension Island.  The canoe won’t stop at this remote island, but will use it as “waymarker” on the way to an island 200 miles off the coast of Brazil.  Navigator Kaleo Wong says the trip across the South Atlantic has been challenging because of unfavorable winds and seas.  Clouds often cover the night time sky, making celestial navigation difficult.  None the less, spirits aboard the polynesian canoe are high.  The Hokule’a should be in the vicinity of Brazil in about 10 days.  Aloha, Russ.
