According to KHON 2 News, Hilo-based MMA fighter B.J. Penn’s fight against Cole Miller on 04 June 2016 has been scrubbed. Penn admitted to using a prohibited method–an IV in excess of 50 ML–in a six-hour period–during a 25 March 2016 out-of-competition sample collection. The UFC issued a provisional suspension until further notice. Penn told KHON 2 News reporter Rob De Mellero that he made an honest mistake and “we’re not being investigated for any banned substances…” Penn called the suspension another “bump in the road”, as he tries to qualify for another MMA/UFC championship bout.
