Tuesday, 07 June 2016, is the deadline to file nomination papers for the primary election.

Most of the attention is being directed to the successor of Hawaii Congressman Mark Takai, who is stepping down to focus on his battle with pancreatic cancer. Takai has endorsed former Hawaii Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa to succeed him.

The other big contest is the race for Honolulu mayor, where former Honolulu mayor Peter Carlisle says he will run again for his former job.
