Honolulu Police Department Lt. Michael Cusumano says the worst thing you can do is nothing. Police officers will first try to communicate with those inside the hostage area. If that fails and shots are being fired, “a team will be assembled and move towards the shooting” as was done in the Orlando, Florida situation. As for those held hostage, Cusumano recommends “run away” or “hide somewhere” and “then fight back.”
The world is becoming a very dangerous place.
