Three California visitors are lucky to be alive after a “rogue wave” knocked them down at Maui’s Olivine Pools on the Kahekili Highway Sunday afternoon.
A 47-year-old man and two 13-year-old boys were able to climb out of the area with the help of family members.
A high surf advisory for east-facing shores has been in effect since Sunday. That advisory ends at 6 a.m. Monday (18 July 2016).
Maui fire officials say those venturing near the ocean “need to stay vigilant at all times.”
