Kailua-Kona residents were greeted with two earthquakes Friday night, 22 July 2016, just before Tropical Storm Darby was expected to pass near Hawaii Island.  The main temblor measured 4.3 magnitude, while the second quake was termed “an aftershock.”  The 4.3 temblor was centered 3.3 miles northwest of Captain Cook and 6.5 miles south-southwest of Holualoa.  The quake occurred at a depth of 11.4 km/7.1 miles.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach, Oahu said NO tsunami was generated by the earthquake.  USGS personnel said the temblor was not related to the ongoing activity at the Kilauea Volcano.
