Here is the latest update on the path of Tropical Storm Madeline.
As of 5 p.m., Saturday, 27 August 2016, Tropical Storm Madeline was located about 1,025 miles east of Hilo, moving west-northwest at 8 mph. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 60 mph and is expected to become a category 1 hurricane by Sunday, 28 August 2016.
The Central Pacific Hurricane Center says Madeline will encounter cooler waters and increasing wind shear as it nears Hawaii Island. These factors will gradually weaken the storm.
It’s too early to determine what affect Madeline will have on Hawaii Island. The Hawaii Civil Defense Agency will keep you updated through radio/television broadcasts, alerts posted to the social media, and through local newspapers. The time to prepare for Madeline’s arrival is now. Have a family emergency kit ready. Be sure you have a full tank of fuel. Listen for civil defense updates.
