Hawaii has lost another of its musical icons. The Honolulu Medical Examiner confirms that the 56-year-old member of the “Ka’au Crater Boys” died “after he was pulled from waters off Sandy Beach Tuesday afternoon” (20 September 2016).
Fire/rescue personnel found Cruz unresponsive about 100 yards from the shoreline. After CPR was used, Cruz was hospitalized in critical condition. He later died at an area hospital.
During his musical career, Cruz won a Na Hanohano Award for Best Male Vocalist and Island Contempory Album of the Year.
He will be missed.
