The public forum was held Friday, 22 January 2016 at Honolulu‘s Plaza Club and featured comments from TMT director Dr. Ed Stone, Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope executive director Doug Simons, and Robert Chu, senior vice president and manager of Bank of Hawaii. Dr. Stone told KHON 2 News that he’s “just waiting for word from the state on what to do next.” In December 2015, the state invalidated the TMT building permit. Dr. Stone emphasized the importance of the proposed telescope “for the state of Hawaii, for astronomy, for the U.S…” and that “we’re part of the future.” The Thirty Meter Telescope will also be used to search for life beyond our solar system. Aloha, Russ.
