Hawaii Island State Senator Lorraine Inouye is one of many Hawaii residents upset over increasing delays encountered by state businesses who rely on Young Brothers to provide inter island shipping services. She is supporting bills that would modernize shipping procedures and provide more terminal space for inter island shipping operations.

Young Brothers says it’s working to alleviate a host of problems, including congestion near the docks, lack of containers, restricted space, and staff shortages.  Young Brothers also wants a rate hike to address some of these issues.

Del Won of the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission tells KHON 2 News that these considerations will be taken into account once the formal rate increase is presented to the regulatory body.
