Comment:

The medical director of the Hawaii Blood Bank tells KHON 2 News that every precaution is being taken to protect Hawaii’s blood supply from contamination from dengue fever and the Zika virus.  Stricter screenings are being done for all donors, especially those who have travelled recently.  Dr. Randall B. Covin says there have been seven confirmed travel-related cases of the Zika virus in Hawaii as of 11 May 2016.  Zika has been implicated in causing severe brain damage in newborns.
