On Sunday, 15 May 2016, the ocean voyaging canoe Hokule’a docked in Old Alexandria Town and received the greetings of about 1,000 people, including Native Americans, local leaders, and Hawaii congressional members Tulsi Gabbard and Mark Takai.  Following the reception, Hokule’a crew members provided guided tours of the ocean voyaging canoe.  The Hokule’a will remain in the Washington, D.C. area for about two weeks before continuing its Malama Honua voyage.
