The state is transferring control of the Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital, and Lanai Community Hospital to Kaiser Permanente. Hawaii Governor David Ige vetoed the original bill, citing “concerns about taxes and liabilities for the state.”
State lawmakers are meeting in special session to iron out those issues in what the governor calls “probably the most complex transition n the history of the state.”
The special legislative session is set to end on Wednesday, 20 July 2016.
