An interesting and helpful article by KHON 2 News reporter Marissa Yamane.
If you’re a homeowner and don’t want to endure the financial pain some Oahu homeowners are feeling after Tropical Storm Darby, be sure to check on the following:
Review your homeowner’s policy. It may not include flood insurance. A flood insurance program is offered by the federal government.
Be sure your vehicle has comprehensive coverage in case it’s flooded during a storm or is vandalized.
Document your household belongings in case you have to file an insurance claim.
Before you hire a contractor to repair storm damage, check with the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs to see if your contractor is bonded and has a good reputation.
Before a storm arrives in Hawaii, discuss coverage with your insurance agent. A little preparation can save a lot of money and heartache later.
