Comic Con Hawaii opened Saturday, 30 July 2016, at Honolulu’s Hawaii Convention Center.  The center piece of the event was the address given by Star Trek actor George Takei, who “has become somewhat of a social media star as well as a leading voice when it comes to LGBT rights.”  Because of his work in the LGBT rights area, Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell declared Saturday, 30 July 2016, as George Takei Day in Honolulu. Comic Con continues on Sunday, 31 July 2016 at the Hawaii Convention Center.
