The free community event will allow Hawaii residents to visit the science reserve atop Mauna Kea and “to see world-class telescopes and learn about the cultural and environmental importance of the mountain.” The program will begin in 2016 and will provide transportation to and from the science reserve, a cultural briefing, a safety briefing at the Hale Pohaku Visitor Center, and a 1 1/2 hour tour of two telescopes on the Mauna Kea Summit. The program was introduced Monday eventing (19 October 2015) by President Obama at the White House Astronomy Night in Washington, D.C.
