The decision to address shark protocols follows a Wednesday afternoon shark attack off Makaha Beach Park. The 10-year-old boy sustained injuries to his right leg and was hospitalized in serious condition. DLNR spokesman, Dr. Bruce Anderson, says there’s been an uptick in reported shark attacks because more people are in the water and venturing further out for ocean recreation experiences.
