Firefighters from several county and state agencies have contained a 1,785-acre brush fire on Highway 190 near Puuanahulu. Fire officials believe the fire was started by a lightning strike above the highway. Highway 190 was closed for most of Thursday, but was reopened to traffic around 5 p.m. No injuries or property damage were reported from this latest brushfire. According to reporter Graham Milldrum, “Around a dozen brush fires have been reported since February during what’s been a dry time of year. Officials suspect arson in several of them.”
