The University of Hawaii at Manoa may play a key role in defeating the Zika virus, which causes microcephaly and other severe brain defects in newborns.
UH-Manoa is bringing a controlled vial of the Zika virus here in hopes of creating a vaccine against this mosquito-borne illness. According to UH-Manoa officials, the vial “will be closely monitored and under heavy security so that no one will be in any danger of catching the virus.” Let’s hope our scientists and researchers can unlock the key to stopping the spread of this infection.
